Angus Fairhurst

This wallpaper has been made from the 1998 series of thirty silkscreen paintings, ‘Underdone/Overdone.’ Executed in different combinations of primary and secondary colours they appear very graphic and surreal. The series was based on black-and-white photographs of thickets in Epping Forest, somewhere Fairhurst often walked.

He repeated the woodland imagery in increasing layers throughout the series, moving from recognisable depictions of crisscrossing trees to near-abstract accumulations of thick colour. The wallpaper has been used in many exhibitions of Fairhurst’s work and been exhibited alongside wallpaper of other YBA artists including Damien Hirst and Sarah Lucas.
